Go to Online Services. You'll need:
- Plate number,
- Last four digits of the VIN,
- Email address,
- Debit card, Credit Card, or Bank Account number to pay.
If you are out of state, you may also renew your registration by;
- Going to Online Services.
- Selecting ‘More Online Vehicle Services’ and following the prompts to renew your plate.
When renewing out of state, you can also have your tab and plate sent directly to you by entering a one-time mailing address.
Note: If you choose to use the 'Quick Renewal' online service, your tabs and registrations will only be mailed to the residential address on record.
- Fill out your renewal notice.
- If you don’t have your renewal notice:
- Use the Renewal Fee Calculator to calculate your renewal fee.
- The renewal fee can also be obtained by calling 517-636-5872.
- Include a copy of your current vehicle registration.
- Include a check or money order payable to State of Michigan.
- Include a copy of your Michigan no-fault insurance
- Mail everything to:

- Send a photocopy of your current registration, proof of valid Michigan no-fault insurance, and a check or money order payable to the "State of Michigan" to:

- Provide an out-of-state address if you want your new registration and tab mailed to you while you are out-of-state.
- Renewal notice or plate number
- Last four digits of the VIN
- Debit or credit card (additional fees apply) or cash (at specific locations)
$4.25 for each self-service station transaction.
